Green Building Design Group’s upcoming 6th Going Green Conference programme, hereafter referred to as the “GGC2018” aims to explore how African Capital Cities can help champion the zero carbon city agenda within a developmental context.

The conference focuses on creating a thought leadership engagement platform for sustainability experts and entrepreneurial professionals working in the built environment and property industries in Southern Africa, respectively.

The 2018 Going Green Conference (GGC2018) is now in its 6th year and will be presented under the theme “Ke Nako — It’s time” whereby leading sustainability experts will highlight cost effective, integrated design thinking solutions towards achieving Smart, Green African Cities. The GGC2018 will take place in Tshwane House, Madiba Street (Pretoria) in partnership with the City of Tshwane as our official host partner from the 29th — 30th August 2018. Our host city, City of Tshwane recognises the importance of sustainable development in its mandate of infrastructure development and services as such it has committed itself to rolling out accelerated Private-Public Partnerships (3Ps) such as the Tshwane House project. Furthermore the City has embarked on a sustainability journey towards urban regeneration and is actively championing the ‘Ke Nako’ theme in an expedient attempt to move towards zero carbon commitments through its commitments to the New Building Efficiency (NBE) network with other C40 Cities from around the world.

Who is coming to the #GGC2018?

The #GGC2018 prides itself in being a thought leadership forum to drive successful Private Public Partnerships (3Ps) in the country. As such we are anticipating sustainability representatives from all spheres of government with large property portfolios, financial institutions, property developers and property equity funds. The conference aims to connect ideas, connect people and stimulate the creation of sustainable integrated design solutions for South African cities.

Green Cafe Tshwane

Leading up to our Tshwane conference we co-hosted a Green Café. where speakers were challenged to come up with practical and creative integrated green design thinking solutions to assist our host partner City of Tshwane achieve a net zero carbon city by 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11) and the country’s National Development Plan.

  • What is a Green Café ? The Green Café is a knowledge exchange platform where people from diverse industries, professions and backgrounds discuss green initiatives and how to best implement them within the city environment. The Green Cafés provide an interactive and open platform for green economy solutions to be used in advancing climate mitigation and adaptation programmes in society and thus aim to assist in unlocking the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Green Café Tshwane dialogue will be used as an interactive platform to engage representatives from different industries on the steps the City should take in advancing towards a Low to Zero Carbon City by 2030.

As a C40 Partner the Capital City has committed to the C40 Cities South Africa Buildings Programme.

The City of Tshwane has plans to implement a Green By-Law and as Green Building Design Group we are planning to marry the recommended solutions into a viable “roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions in the public sector” that can be used as a consistent message leading up to our 6th Going Green in Public Facilities conference in August where all the cities will be invited to learn from the pathway of the Capital City and other C40 Cities partners involved in the New Building Efficiency network.
